OptimalSolution LLC is a consulting and software development practice focused on advancing energy system modeling, decarbonization planning, and open-source toolchains for energy and environmental analysis.

Founded and operated by Oleg Lugovoy, PhD (LinkedInORCID), the practice builds on extensive experience in mathematical optimization, macro-energy system models, and cross-platform integration of modeling languages such as GAMS, Pyomo, JuMP, and R.

About Me

With over 20 years of experience in modeling, energy transitions, and optimization software, I help research teams, governments, and organizations:

  • Develop and maintain long-term energy transition models
  • Translate and refactor models across platforms
  • Integrate policy, technology, and environmental constraints
  • Build reproducible modeling environments

I’m also the lead developer and co-author of several open-source projects, including:

  • energyRt: an open framework for macro-energy systems in R
  • USENSYS: United States Energy System optimization Model
  • IDEEA: Indian Zero Carbon Energy Pathways
